GREETING DEATH (can) "Pain Of The Earth" 1987 demo

GREETING DEATH (can) "Pain Of The Earth" 1987 demo
The lone demo by Canadians Greeting Death ......Quebec actually. It's an interesting and classic demo. I first saw it reveiwed in some magazine back in 1987 and ordered it from the band. I still have my original demo. This blew me away then. I loved the band name. Their songs are fast, raw, deathrash. Comparable to Wehrmacht, Soothsayer, Slayer, Bathory, Possessed, Deathrage & Kreator. This demo is more like a cassette album. Lots of music to enjoy and it's worth your time every time. CULT!

1.  The Slaughterer
2.  Greeting Death
3.  Kill The God
4.  Threshold Of Doom
5.  Pain Of The Earth
6.  The Revolt
7.  Death To Christ
8.  The Gates Of Hell
9.  Beyond The Graves

SENTINEL (us/tx) - 1986 demo

SENTINEL (us/tx) - 1986 demo
Some excellent power/speed metal from Texas and a band called Sentinel. They are in the same vein as Agent Steel, Helstar (Remnants Of War-era), Fates Warning & Have Mercy. Very tight, speedy, great riffing, excellent sung vocals and inspired solo's. It's only 2 songs but it's highly recommended.

1.  Panzer Attack
2.  Death Be Proud

4 TO REICH

4 TO REICH (arg) "Bienvenidos Al Infierno" 1986 demo
This is excellent speed black metal from Argentina and dates to 1986 - that alone makes it quite amazing. They are tight, the songs are killer, the solo's are ripping! Comparisons? Like a mix of Bathory, Incubus (aus), Slaughter Lord, Possessed, old Sepultura, Sarcofago, Mayhem (nor), and Master's Hammer. The words are in their Native Tongue, and that makes it sound more vicious. A cult demo!

AAMONHAMMER (bra) "Funeral" 1987 demo

AAMONHAMMER (bra) "Funeral" 1987 demo
This was one of many cult Brazilian bands who released just a demo, and they also appeared on the Warfare Noise II Comp. LP in 1988, and then split-up. The demo is rough and raw, in the vein of old Hellhammer, Necrophagia & Bathory, but with some speed metal influences (Slayer, Destruction, Sodom, Sacrcofago) and killer solo's. For cultists.

6 demo's in one file: SYRANAX (us/tx) "The Battalion Of Death" 1985 demo#1, ROTTING CORPSE (us/tx) - 1986 demo#1, HELLPREACHER (us/tx) "Resurrection" 1986 demo, TYRRANICIDE (us/ca) "Hiding Under White" 1986 demo, SAMHAIN (den) "The Courier" 1985 demo & SACRIFICE (jap) "Crest Of Black" 1986 demo

Here are 6 cult demo's all together in one file.
The first 3 are cult Texas bands.
We'll go demo by demo....

SYRANAX (us/tx) "The Battalion Of Death" 1985 demo #1
This is excellent raw brutal death thrash from Austin, Texas. There was a thriving scene in Texas in the mid-to-late 80's and Syranax was one of several who were excellent at their craft. It's dirty and a bit necro, but ripping and heavy. They even remind me a bit of Canadian's Terminated Rite. This is the first of 2 demo's they released.

1.  Pedifile
2.  Face The Blade
3.  Wheels Of Hades
4.  The Battalion Of Death

ROTTING CORPSE (us/tx) - 1986 demo #1
These Dallas Deathrashers came storming onto the underground scene with this killer death/thrash demo that takes its influence from Slayer, Possessed, Dark Angel & Exodus, yet they make it into their own Texas style - it's rabid and manic! Reminds me a bit of the band Burnt Offering. A totally killer cult release!

5.  Rotting Corpse
6.  War On Drugs
7.  Evil Slaughter

HELLPREACHER (us/tx) "Resurrection" 1986 demo
This is another of the cult Texas demo bands. This is dark evil death metal! Similar more to Necrovore, and in fact their drummer did play with Necrovore. Great morbid riffs, Slayer-like solo's, Possessed-inspired evilness and a tortured yell for vocals (maybe the ONLY weak point of the demo). They remind me a bit of Desecration (the Cali band). Some of the riffing on this demo is well ahead of it's time (especially "Parricidal").

8.  Resurrection
9.  Parricidal
10.  Inverted Crosses

TYRRANICIDE (us/ca) "Hiding Under White" 1986 demo #1
Some excellent thrash from California. What I really like about this band is the vocalist. He sounds deranged. He has a sick voice. Some might consider him to be a slight bit crossover in the way he yells some parts, but it's still kinda twisted, like in an The Accused sort of way. The music is dark thrash, either slow and vicious or fast and thrashing! Slayer-esque precision and great tempo changes. A highly recommended treasure from '86.

11.  Hiding Under White
12.  Summoned To Die
13.  Facing Reality
14.  Epilogue
15.  Cripples Revenge

SAMHAIN (den) "The Courier1985 demo

This is an already rather well-known cult demo, but I wanted to share my rip. This Danish band Samhain wrote killer evil thrash inspired by Celtic Frost, Slaughter, Bathory, Slayer & Possessed. The first song was featured on the Speed Metal Hell Vol. II compilation LP from 1986. This is a devastating release. After this demo they changed the band into DesExult and released more cult demo's.

16.  Plague Of Messiah
17.  Prince Of Evil
18.  Salvation

SACRIFICE (jap) "Crest Of Black" 1986 demo
Do not confuse this band with the Canadian one, even though it would be easy to since their logo's even look almost identical. This Sacrifice is from Japan and they're black thrash with some sick vocals that are sort of a cross between Sodom & Bathory. Musically they're not overly speedy, more mid-tempo evil metal that's heavy and performs it's task of making your head band and your fingers morph into the horns. They remind me a bit of Sabbat (jap) as well. A definitive cult release!

19.  Friday Nightmare
20.  Warfare

CRIMSON DEATH (us/ca) "Destined To Die" 1987 demo

CRIMSON DEATH (us/ca) "Destined To Die" 1987 demo
A killer demo from 1987 and it's from a L.A. California band called Crimson Death. It's ripping death metal. In the same vein as Necrovore, Morbid Angel, Wehrmacht, Possessed, Desecration (us/ca), Ritual (us/ca), etc. It's raw and vicious and inspired. Highly recommended. This was the bands only release.

1.  Warzone
2.  Baphomet
3.  Destined To Die
4.  Presence Of Evil
5.  Demonic Destiny
6.  Morbid Atheist

BACCHUS (us/ca) "Enraged" 1987 demo #1, "88" 1988 demo #2 and 1989 demo #3

BACCHUS (us/ca) "Enraged" 1987 demo #1
This is the first of their 3 classic demo's. These guys were from San Francisco and played a great power/speed/thrash metal. The vocals are a sort of crossover style, like a mix of Cronos & D.R.I. The music is thrash, with some riffs being very Possessed-like, plus some Destruction + Slayer influences. Great jamming leads. They stand out from their Bay Area peers.

1.  Enraged
2.  Malevolence
3.  War Monger
4.  Mein Kampf

BACCHUS (us/ca) "88" 1988 demo #2
On their second demo all crossover elements are gone. It's now speed thrash. A lot more Slayer influence, and much thrashier sick vocals with great screams, and still very Possessed-like riffing. I also hear a bit of Razor in their sound. Just a killer demo with an improved sound over the debut demo.

5.  Mein Kampf
6.  Reanimator
7.  Malevolence
8.  Pull The Plug
9.  Hatchet Man

BACCHUS (us/ca) - 1989 demo #3
This 3rd demo is basically the 2nd demo re-recorded with a new vocalist. It's like a second rendition of these songs in another studio and with another vocalist. I prefer the previous version better myself. Bacchus was a great band. They get mostly lost & forgotten today, but they were a part of that thriving Bay Area Thrash scene (they formed in 1985).

10.  Mein Kampf
11.  Reanimator
12.  Malevolence
13.  Pull The Plug
14.  Hatchet Man

MATRICIDE (us/fl) "Mother's Day" 1987 demo #1 and "Elysium" 1988 demo #2

MATRICIDE (us/fl) "Mother's Day" 1987 demo #1
This is a killer demo of early death metal by Matricide. It's actually a one-man band of John Ortega, who played bass in Morbid Angel from 1985-1986. He started this solo-project band afterwards. He does the vocals, guitars, bass, effects and programmed the drums. This first demo is raw, primitive, morbid and sick! It was a classic at the time, and another of the cult 1987 demo's.

1.  Evil Dead
2.  Contamination
3.  Black Plague
4.  Guardians Of The Crypt
5.  Nightmare Of Possession

MATRICIDE (us/fl) "Elysium" 1988 demo #2
On the second demo the music has progressed and over-all the song structures have matured. He does a surprisingly good job with the programmed drums. This would be the last Matricide demo before they disappeared to remain as a cult band with just 2 demo's to their name. Great surreal death metal with some of the best song titles of that era.

6.  Warrior Of The 7th Domain
7.  Matricide
8.  Kingdoms Lost To Shadows Of Another Mind
9.  Shadows Beyond The Unseen Realm
10.  Evil Dead

2 demo's in 1 file: ARGOS (c.r.) "Under The Sacrilege" 1989 demo + SILENXCE (hol) "Infernal Ending..." 1987 demo #1

ARGOS (c.r.) "Under The Sacrilege" 1989 demo
This is the only great Costa Rican thrash band I know of. This demo is simply KILLER! Very much in the same vein as Slaughter Lord (aus), Agressor (fra), old Sepultura & Sodom. A really rare classic that deserves to be in any collection for listening pleasure at any given moment.

1.  The Final Time
2.  Sacrilege
3.  Sentence

SILENXCE (hol) "Infernal Ending..." 1987 demo #1
This band was previously known as Inferno and released a primitive demo in '86. In '87 they changed their name to Silenxce (I have no idea why there's an "x" in there) and released this KILLER demo that was ahead of its time! It is amazing technical thrash in the same vein as Deathrow & Dark Angel with killer soaring vocals, ripping riffs, pounding precise drumming and a production worthy of an album and not a debut demo. This is a masterpiece through and through! An absolute must-have.

4.  Ort ni  -  Crucial Incision
5.  Agent Orange
6.  Masquereign
7.  The Kraken
8.  Ten Plagues
9.  Silenxce
10.  Infernal Ending

DETONATHRASH (can) "Death On A Thrash" 1987 demo

DETONATHRASH (can) "Death On A Thrash" 1987 demo
It seems the year 1987 was a magic year for phenomenal demo's. Here's another one from Canadians, well Quebecians, Detonathrash and it's killer evil thrash. The vocals are more blackish, the music is speedy death/thrash inspired by Possessed, Bathory, Slayer, Sodom, Venom & early Death. Totally cult despite the band name.

1.  Storm Terror
2.  Warfare
3.  Cremation Of Souls
4.  Dead By Dawn
5.  Artificial Peace
6.  Death On A Thrash

ABRACADATHRASH (swi) "F.T.W." 1989 demo

ABRACADATHRASH (swi) "F.T.W." 1989 demo
Don't let the band-name turn you away. This is a KILLER demo by an obscure Swiss band. Excellent tight ripping thrash that is like a mix of Sepultura, Pestilence, early Metallica, Paradox, Devastation & Dark Angel. The 2nd song ("Reincarnation") is a "Gods Of Wrath" / "Fade To Black" type of song.

1.  Destroy
2.  Reincarnation
3.  Fight The Law
4.  Abracadathrash

MORBID ECSTASY (us/ny) - Rehearsal summer 1988

                     MORBID ECSTASY

MORBID ECSTASY (us/ny) - Rehearsal Summer 1988
This was my first band. I wrote the music and I play Guitar. The band is rounded out by drummer Rich Rago, bassist Dan Santillo, and vocalist Mike Proctor. The first song is the same song twice. The second version sounds better but cuts in and is missing part of the beginning of the song. Mike Proctor delivers some AMAZING screams towards the end. At this time we were very inspired (mutually) by Death, Bathory, Slayer, Possessed, Celtic Frost and Sacrifice. We never recorded a demo. Dan quit to join local band Explicit Death and we split up. I think our music was dark death/thrash and it was tight.

1.  Golgotha
2.  (cuts in) Golgotha
3.  Sludge

INNER RAGE (us/ny) - 1987 demo

INNER RAGE (us/ny) - 1987 demo
This NYC band plays some killer thrash/speed/power metal! The riffs are ripping. The vocals are angry - I'd almost compare them a bit to the vocals of Wrath & Metal Church. They're tight and the songs are well-written. Only the middle song slows down a bit and gets a slight weak. Highly Recommended.

1.  Metal Overload
2.  Hole In Time
3.  Pain Master

VALKYRIA {Вал'кирия} (rus) "Валькирия Взлетает" 1990 demo

VALKYRIA {Вал'кирия} (rus) "Валькирия Взлетает" {"Valkyria Takes Off"} 1990 demo
This is a PHENOMENAL demo by a Russian band called Valkyria - Вал'кирия in Russian language (as is their logo). The music is dark & heavy thrash and sounds trapped in 1987 and also has atmosphere with some excellent usage of keyboards!!! Some comparisons......hmmm, Pestilence is an influence. They sound like Dark Millennium before they existed! This is really excellent!!!! Completely original! Highly recommended!! ........and Total cult!!!!

1.  Спектакль  (Gala Drama)
2.  Ждет Меня  (Waiting For Me)
3.  Вороны  (Ravens)
4.  Висельников Бал  (Hearing A Violin of a Hell)

FATE (den) - 1985 demo

FATE (den) - 1985 demo
This was the band that Hank Shermann (guitar) formed after Mercyful Fate split up in 1984. You can see why King parted ways with Hank - the songs are commercial rock. At least these are demo versions, so not as polished as the LP's (which suck!). It's decent, and for Mercyful Fate purists who want to hear Hank do some good solo's at least....just ignore the lame music and vocals. It's not that they TOTALLY suck, but it really bothers me that they called themselves "Fate".

1.  New Sensation
2.  Fire
3.  Downtown Toy

WIZZARD OF OZ (swe) - 1982 demo

WIZZARD OF OZ

WIZZARD OF OZ (swe) - 1982 demo
I have no logo or picture or ANYTHING for this obscure Swedish band. Just a recording of their 1982 demo. Very NWOBHM in its sound, except the last song which is a Rush-like ballad. But for '82 and being from Sweden, this was rather heavy for its time. And it's rather rare & obscure. So here it is....

1.  Highway Roller
2.  Losing Control
3.  Let It Be

XZANTHUS (us/ca) - 1989 demo

XZANTHUS (us/ca) - 1989 demo
An over-looked demo by an under-appreciated band with an unusual band-name. The music simply RIPS!!! We only get 3 songs, but they are mad thrashers with insane riffage, angry vocals, and considering this demo came out in '89 it sounds like '87-era thrash. Great unique stuff and tempo changes. Recommended.

1.  Mindwarp
2.  Wastelands
3.  World Of Misery

VON HELLSING (us/ny) "The Fiend Who Comes at Dawn" 1987 demo

VON HELLSING (us/ny) "The Fiend Who Comes At Dawn" 1987 demo
A very very rare demo from a NYC band called Von Hellsing. This is killer ripping power metal that takes its influence from Iron Maiden, Helstar, Metal Church, Savatage, King Diamond & Judas Priest. Heavy riffs, solid & tight playing throughout, great vocal melodies and catchy songs. The demo quality makes it sound really heavy and killer. A total classic.

DETHTOLL (us/oh) "Count The Dead" 1987 demo #1 and "S.A.D." 1988 demo #2

DETHTOLL (us/oh) "Count The Dead" 1987 demo#1
An absolutely killer cult thrash demo from Toledo band Dethtoll. It's in the same vein as Severe Warning, Incubus (aus&usa), Slayer, Blood Feast, and other great ripping thrash of this era. It does NOT disappoint. I have shared both of their demos together in one file for you. This is all this band released, sadly.

1.  Mourning Impalement
2.  Count The Dead
3.  Destructive End
4.  Sea Of Fire
5.  Erthshok
6.  Erthshok (alt mix)

DETHTOLL (us/oh) "S.A.D." 1988 demo#2
Continuing on their path created on the debut with some Voivod "Killing Technology" influences thrown in as well. A great couple of demo's that deserve repeated listenings.

7.  Deth Revealed

9.  Flight 655
